Apsaras and bas reliefs

But the bas reliefs of Angkor have no equal anywhere in sheer scale. The total length is 800 meters and are carved on the walls of the galleries that surround the main temple. They show the battle of Kurukshetra as mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata in excuisite details.

Others are in pristine conditions making it a wonder of the world.

Here  is  a heavily damaged Apsara that still shows ethereal beauty carved in stone forever.

The weather, the vandals and the war caused havoc to these beautiful carvings but many survived for us to admire .
